Walking Worries: Rural Dog Walking Golden Rules

(source Pixabay)

Taking your dog for a walk is one of life’s simple pleasures. Especially around this time of year, as summer fades into fall, and you head off into the countryside to explore with your best friend by your side - it’s pretty much the ideal, isn’t it? As wonderful as dog walks can be, they are not without their issues. It’s rarely as simple as put a leash on and everything is perfect and picturesque from that point. Dogs like to explore; they like to get dirty; and walking can be inherently hazardous. So before you head off exploring, it’s always worth ensuring you’re abiding by the golden rules to keep country walks enjoyable for both you and your pooch.

Bites and Stings: Prevention Rather Than Reaction

If your dog is going to be bounding along through a natural trail, then there’s a good chance some creepy-crawlie on the ground is going to take one look at them and think: “ooh, yum!”Ticks, fleas, and various other insects that most of us like to pretend don’t exist, are all liable to see your dog’s soft underside as their chance for a quick snack. By far the best way of dealing with this threat is through being proactive rather than reactionary.

Ensure your furry friend is safeguarded with Pet-Lock best flea and tick treatment for dogs. While this might not prevent an opportunistic critter from having a snack, at least the consequences won’t be felt for weeks to come. If you’re going to be walking through particularly dense brush, then it’s worth considering a coat for your dog to help protect their skin, too.

Distraction Dangers: Wary Of Off-Leash

Some dogs have a tendency to wander; i.e. if they’re let off the leash, they’re not going to be too inclined to stick close to their owners. Instead, they will take off whenever they see something that intrigues them - and there’s a strong possibility that will intrigue them if you’re going for a rural walk. The only reason way to deal with this is to use long, flexible leashes that still allow your dog the freedom to roam, but with a limit. This might feel like you’re stifling their fun, but really, you’re protecting them. It helps to know your dog as well; if they have a tendency to wander, then this might be a step you need to take. Other breeds and personalities are more likely to stick to your heels - leash or no - so use your judgement on this one.

Clean Up: Be Prepared

If you’re going to be taking your dog on a rural walk, then bear in mind that dogs have a staggering ability to get themselves filthy in a relatively short period of time. If they’re going to be getting back into the car to go home, you’re going to need quick methods of cleaning them up - for the moment - before the big wash when you get home.

To that end, always pack a few bottles of water, some towels you don’t mind getting rid of, and paper towels. It might not be the most thorough wash, but it’ll do until you can get them home and into the bath! Happy walking!

Aesthetic Optimization 101: Strategies That Will Make You More Beautiful

Many people view themselves as average in the looks department. While obsessing about one's appearance is unhealthy, being concerned about one's aesthetic appeal is not. The more confident you are about the way you look, the more likely you are to have high self-esteem and develop healthy relationships. As such, focusing on aesthetic optimization is always a good idea. Below you'll find three of many strategies that you can implement to make yourself more beautiful:

1. Develop A Yoga Practice.

People who are serious about getting gorgeous should know that developing a yoga practice is a wonderful way to realize the objective. One of the reasons is that yoga increases the circulation of blood throughout the body. Once this happens, more oxygen will reach the cells within your body, thereby making your face glow. Another beauty benefit that results from yoga is detoxification. The improved blood circulation that results from yoga engenders the removal of toxins from the body, thereby contributing to more youthful-looking skin.

2. Don't Let Yourself Get Dehydrated.

Dehydration is a big problem in America, and the end result is reduced aesthetic appeal. This is the case for numerous reasons. First, failing to drink enough water can lead to overeating, with this factor leading to weight gain. Dehydration can also cause constipation and the storage of toxins within the body, thereby leading to problems like an extended belly and lackluster skin. There are several strategies you can implement to ensure that you're getting enough H2O each day. One is placing a large water bottle at your bedside and drinking the contents every morning as soon as you wake up!

3. Take Great Care Of Your Teeth.

Your face is the most visible section of your entire body, and your smile is a large component of this region. As such, you want to keep your pearly whites in optimal condition. Doing so will contribute to your overall physical appearance. There are now several at-home tooth products that can help you improve the appearance of your pearly whites. How A Pet Dog Can Teach Responsibility To Your Children

Children can often take things for granted, whether it is a mobile phone, a new toy, or even their bedrooms and places that they sleep. It is up to us as parents to show them the value of things, and that money doesn’t grow on trees. Things are not just bought and paid for out of thin air. But, there are other life lessons we need to teach our children, and one of those is being responsible for things. Whether that is for another person, another living thing, or even being responsible for themselves and their own actions. This is why something like a family pet dog can be a worthwhile addition to the family. I thought I would share with you some of the ways having a pet dog can teach your children responsibility.

They learn about what to feed them and when

A pet dog requires feeding, that may be obvious. But while the first week may mean you have enthusiastic children, that enthusiasm can dwindle as time goes on. Being responsible for a family means it is every day, and as parents, we choose to ensure our kid’s well-being is of the utmost importance. So teaching that to children through a pet dog is a great way to instill that into them for their future. Feeding a dog regularly, ensuring they have the right treats and care is a great place to start. They may want to consider the best dog dental chews to combat their bad breath and keep their teeth healthy. They could even make a point of helping to choose the right dog food for the breed and size of their pet dog. These decisions give children a sense of responsibility, while still sharing that same enthusiasm for their new pet.

They are responsible for their exercise

Dogs need to be walked, and during the warmer days, this may feel like a great activity for the children. But what happens when it gets a little colder, and the rain starts? The enthusiasm deflates. Again a dog isn’t just for the nice days, and so children will become aware of their duties and responsibilities for their pet dog. They know that exercise is important, and they begin to start thinking of another living thing as well as their own needs and wants.

They become aware of the health of their pet dog

Being responsible for a dog means they get to know their personalities, so when their dog starts to act a little strange, perhaps more tired or not as energetic, then the children become responsible by sharing their concerns with you and even a vet if you think it is necessary.

They become accountable for cleaning up after something else

Finally, dogs can make a mess. That might be pet hair on the floors, a dog's mess in the garden, or even leaving their toys around. Just like children can. So looking after the dog means a child becomes responsible for the mess they create, which can encourage them to be more considerate with their own items around the home. VI hope this has made you more aware of some of the great possibilities and lessons that can be learned from having a pet dog.

Are You Sleep Deprived?

If you're not getting enough sleep, you may be suffering from sleep deprivation. Although you may think it's nothing to be concerned about, chronic fatigue and sleep deprivation is linked to a variety of health problems.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, seven to nine hours of sleep each night is recommended for healthy physical and mental function, but many people fall short. Missing a few hours of sleep here and there will leave you feeling fatigued the next day, but it's not likely to cause health problems. However, missing sleep each night for a period of time can cause chronic fatigue and sleep deprivation, a known cause of various health problems. Do you have signs of sleep deprivation?

Hunger

According to Neurology research, sleep deprivation deprives the brain of energy. People who are sleep deprived often overeat to replace the energy lost from lack of sleep. This increases the production of ghrelin, a hunger hormone that makes you crave sugary and fatty foods.

Weight Gain

Sleep deprivation slows down your metabolism, so the more you overeat, the more weight you gain. Studies show that lack of sleep lowers the ability of your fat cells to  properly regulate insulin in your body. If you sleep four or five hours each night for one week, your fat cells' ability to regulate energy is reduced by 30 percent.

Sick More Often

If you're not getting enough sleep, you may find that you're sick more often. Sleep deprivation lowers your immune system, so it's harder to fight off illness and infections. Research shows that people who get less than seven hours of sleep each night on a good mattress mesa az are three times more likely to catch a cold than people who sleep eight or more hours every night.

Difficulty Making Decisions

Sleep deprivation affects cognitive skills, so making decisions and managing day to day tasks becomes more difficult. Lack of sleep can lower your decision making skills by as much as five percent. This can have a major impact on your ability to function at each day at work and at home.

Skin Problems

Not getting enough sleep impacts the hormone balance and elevates estrogen levels in your body. When you're asleep, your skin works to repair damaged cells and produce collagen that increases skin firmness and reduces wrinkles. If you're sleep deprived, you can expect more blemishes and older looking skin. They don't call it “beauty sleep” for no reason!

Cowboys & Cowgirls Party

A wild west themed party is always a winner, and an excuse to wear your cowboy boots. A miniature petting zoo or pony rides could make this party even more awesome too.

Flowers Party

A party themed around flowers would be a great theme for any birthday girl. It makes decorations easy, right? As you can just use what mother nature has on offer. Pretty cupcakes with floral icing is a good dessert, and you could do a scavenger hunt or flower pressing, as well as party games.

Detective Party

If you have a budding super sleuth, then a party to hone their detective skills could be just the thing. While a murder mystery isn’t ideal for a child’s party, how about making it into a scavenger hunt to find ‘clues’ from all over the yard?

Ghostbusters Party

With the new Ghostbuster film last year, it has opened the franchise up to a whole new group of children. Think slime making and silly string fights, as well as making proton packs for all of the guests to wear. It could get a little messy, so keep it outside. If it rains, you could look at steel building systems to see about getting a barn put together. Then you don’t have to have the mess inside your house!

Alice in Wonderland Party

If there was ever a story or a movie that was suited to a summer party, then it is Alice in Wonderland. A tea party is the perfect setting for the main event, as well as pin the tail on the white rabbit or pin the smile on the Cheshire cat. There are endless possibilities with this theme.

Wet and Wild Party

Who needs to go to a water park when you can create the fun at home? Make a slip and slide with a plastic tarp and soapy water, get plenty of water balloons for water balloon volleyball, as well as pool noodles or inflatables for other water fun games.

Angry Birds Party

All you need is some blocks and balls, and you can create your own angry birds game. Cake pops or cake with the characters would work well, as well as playing bowling with homemade skittles and pink balls with the pig’s faces on. Lots of fun with this theme for sure.

Pirate Party

Shiver me timbers! A pirate party works really well over summer. You could use a paddling pool to form part of the ship and create different games around walking the plank. You could hunt for chocolate coins (treasure) in the yard, and then enjoy some pirate treats like popcorn and hotdogs.
